Frequently Asked Questions
The Event
This year, Boardies Day is changing slightly. Boardies Day will be held on different dates for each state. Click on ‘IN YOUR STATE’ to find out when your state is participating.
Yes, you can pick a day that suits your school, club or workplace anytime in the month your State is holding Boardies Day. As long as it is in the same month as your State, you'll still be eligible to receive a Boardies Day Kit. Just send an email to boardiesday@slsfoundation.com.au to let us know.
You may like to theme your day as ‘Back to the Beach’ so you can wear other beach attire or ‘Weird and Wacky shorts’. Anything that is out of the ordinary and that you don’t usually get to wear to work or school. It’s the cause that counts and getting involved that matters!
Alternatively, you can just make a donation to your state or favourite surf club in lieu of wearing your board shorts. Just click ‘DONATE NOW’ and choose the state or club you wish to support.
No, Surf Life Saving does not sell board shorts at this stage however, we are looking into limited edition board shorts for 2012. Stay tuned!
Yes you can! The more public awareness of the event and the important role our volunteer Surf Lifesavers play on the beaches the better. Just contact your local media outlet with the details of your event. If you do receive coverage, be sure to send us a copy, boardiesday@slsfoundation.com.au.
We would love to see images from your Boardies Day! Please email your images and details to boardiesday@slsfoundation.com.au - you may even appear on our website!
Yes! If you don’t have the time to be directly involved in dressing down or holding a Boardies Day event, you can still make a donation. You can support any affiliated Surf Life Saving Club in Australia or choose to support priority lifesaving services in a state.
Just click ‘DONATE NOW’, select the state you wish to support and then follow the prompts to donate to a specific club or priority lifesaving services in your state. Choose your donation method (cash, cheque, BPAY or credit card) and your funds will be allocated to your chosen club’s online fundraising page or state page.
Registration
Registration is easy!!! Click ‘REGISTER’ and follow the prompts! Once your registration is received, a Boardies Day Kit will be posted to you. The kit contains step by step instructions on how to hold your own Boardies Day and also some resources to help you theme your day.
Yes! It’s always great to have the chance to do something fun in the office and engage all your employees. Just have one person in your team register for you. It even works well to have competing teams within your school or workplace to create some friendly rivalry. ‘Who can raise the most’ is a great incentive to get everyone behind the day.
We will endeavour to post your kit within five (5) working days of receiving your registration. QLD participants will receive their Boardies Day Kits from 1 September 2011. Be sure to put the correct postal address on your registration form.
NOTE: Please allow ten (10) working days from registration for your kit to arrive. If it still hasn’t arrived after this time email us at boardiesday@slsfoundation.com.au
As we are a charity and this event is all about raising money for gear and equipment on the beach, we only have a limited number of materials to theme clubs, offices, schools and workplaces. You can however download additional resources from 'FUN DOWNLOADS' - these include posters, an email banner, board short templates and for the younger ones, colouring in competitions and puzzles.
Raising Funds
Just click ‘FUNDRAISE ONLINE’ and follow the prompts. You will receive an email with your private log in details including user name, password and URL link.
Spread the word to everyone you know or do business with telling them you are involved and raising funds for Surf Life Saving. Ask them to sponsor you via your online personalised fundraising page and/or at your event. Great tips can be found in your Boardies Day Kit.
Yes! Tell them to visit your online fundraising page. They can choose the best payment option for them. If they choose ‘POST billpay’ or ‘BPAY,’ a donation form will be generated onscreen and emailed to them. For POST billpay, they must print this form and take it in person along with their cash or cheque to any Australia Post store in order to complete the donation. Alternatively, details for BPAY are provided and these can be used to pay the donation.
A tax deductible receipt is available for all donations over $2.00. Ask the donor to supply you with an email address and personal contact details. You can submit the funds on their behalf through your online personalised fundraising page using a credit card, BPAY or POST billpay.
To make the donation just use the ‘DONATE NOW’ link on your fundraising page. In the receipt section of the donation process input the donor’s personal details and valid email address and once the donation is completed a tax receipt will be emailed to them.
NO! In order to conduct ‘door knocks’ you require a special permit. The concept of Boardies Day is to raise donations through colleagues, friends, family and contacts you already have through asking them to participate or to donate directly towards your involvement.
To get your neighbourhood involved perhaps hold a ‘beach themed’ street party or if you are lucky enough to have a pool, why not host a Boardies Day pool party instead.
Boardies Day is not just another dress down day. It is an important revenue stream for all Surf Life Saving Clubs across the country. Surf Life Saving Clubs rely on funding from Boardies Day to assist in the purchase of vital rescue equipment; training and development of our surf lifesavers; and delivery of educational programs to save lives well into the future. Click on 'Why Support' for more information.
When you’re ready to deposit your Boardies Day funds, you can choose to donate directly to your favourite Surf Life Saving Club or allocate the funds to priority lifesaving services in your state.
Yes. Click ‘DONATE NOW’ and select the state you want your funds to go to and then follow the instructions provided.
Each Club has a personalised online fundraising page. You can donate to a specific club by clicking ‘DONATE NOW’, selecting the state your club is in and then following the instructions provided to select the club you wish to support.
If you have created your own personalised fundraising page and wish for your total funds raised to be donated to a specific Club, you MUST notify us that you would like this to happen by sending an email to boardiesday@slsfoundation.com.au and advising the Club name. Otherwise, the funds raised on your online personalised fundraising page will be automatically directed towards priority lifesaving needs in your state.
Yes! We have a lot of companies that choose to gift match what their employees donate. Encourage your boss to get involved and match what you make or to ‘start the ball rolling’ by putting in to kick the event off. Every donation over $2.00 receives a tax receipt if the donation is made online. A receipt will be sent almost immediately.
Collecting money as you go reduces the time of following up pledges after the event. The easiest way is to collect the donations on the day - then use a credit card to make one full donation online following a quick and easy process - you will receive a receipt almost instantly via email.
Online Fundraising
Your online personalised fundraising page is your own tool designed to help you spread the word that you are participating in Boardies Day and raising funds for Surf Life Saving.
It’s easy to set up, just click ‘FUNDRAISE ONLINE’ and follow the prompts. You will receive an email with your private log in details including user name, password and URL link.
It is then up to you how often or how little you use the page. The best way to achieve your fundraising target is to email your page URL link to all your friends, family and contacts. This way they can learn more about what you are doing and can easily donate online to support you.
Each time someone donates to you they will automatically receive an email containing their tax receipt (if their donation is $2.00 or over). You will also receive notification via email that they have supported you.
You can update your page anytime with a photo, video or a message on how you are progressing. Your supporters can even leave messages of support.
