Fundraising Tips & Ideas

You can get involved in so many ways for Boardies Day - it’s all about having some fun and doing your bit to raise vital funds for our volunteer surf lifesavers.

Here are some ideas to get you started!!!

  • Have a beach party or lunchtime BBQ and charge admission.
  • Raise extra money by selling red and yellow cupcakes.
  • Put a collection tin in your workplace and ask people to donate their coffee money for the day.
  • Ask staff to donate an hour of their pay to Surf Life Saving on Boardies Day.
  • Ask your employer to match dollar for dollar the amount donated by staff.
  • Hold a morning tea and encourage everyone to bring a plate of food (why not make it red & yellow!). Ask everyone to make a gold coin donation.
  • If your boss is a good sport, perhaps you can hold them captive so your colleagues have to donate to “rescue” him/her.
  • Send an email around to all your suppliers, clients, customers, friends, family, work colleagues telling them what you are doing and inviting them to join in either by hosting their own Boardies Day or donating online direct to your online personalised fundraising page or your favourite Surf Club’s online fundraising page.
  • Have a competition with another school, business or floor in your building about who can raise the most money.
  • Hold a water/beach/pool social day.
  • Run a Boardies Day raffle in your workplace/school. Ask a local business to provide a prize and donate proceeds to Surf Life Saving.
  • Have a competition for the best dressed or loudest boardies (and charge people to enter).
  • Turn the tables and raise funds by fining people who don’t wear their boardies or beach gear.
  • Decorate your school, classroom or workplace in a red and yellow theme - this will help set the mood for the day.
  • Hold a competition for who can design the best pair of board shorts. Ask your employer to make a donation to the winner’s favourite Surf Club.
  • Adopt your local club and invite a lifesaver to come along and speak to your staff/students (please be conscious that they are volunteers so in some case may not be available). Hold fundraising activities around this for your local club.
  • Bring the beach to your school or workplace by setting up a beach display (beach umbrellas, beach towel, buckets/spades, surf board etc…).
  • Contact your local newspaper to get some local coverage for your school/business - try to identify an angle to “sell” your story to them. Don’t forget to promote the Boardies Day website and encourage people to donate online.
  • Spread the word about your involvement in Boardies Day to your clients or suppliers through newsletters, updates, other websites etc and encourage people to donate.  Be out loud and proud of your support for community safety initiatives and an iconic organisation like Surf Life Saving.
  • Hold a crazy hair day whereby your colleagues pay to have their hair coloured red and/or yellow.
  • Download a poster or the email banner and start spreading the word!
