About the Surf Life Saving Foundation

The concept to develop the Surf Life Saving Foundation (SLSF) was first put forward in the early 1990’s by Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ). In brief, it was to enable SLSQ to focus more on core operations, services and outcomes rather than the administrative tasks of fundraising.

The initial focus of the Foundation primarily was to raise funds for SLSQ via direct donor communications and management, fundraising events and management of the SLSQ Lottery (Art Union).

The Surf Life Saving Foundation was established in 1997. On 17 November 1998 the Surf Life Saving Foundation was incorporated under the Associations Incorporation Act (1981). The Foundation members elected the first Board of Management on 15 February 1999. During 2001 the Foundation began donor communication services for other state Surf Life Saving entities and now is the body responsible for Donor management nationwide. The Foundation also continues to manage fundraising events and lottery for SLSQ under a State based arrangement.

The Foundation has separate staffing divisions for Finance, Donor, Bequests, Major Gifts, Events and Lotteries. Specific individuals and teams are sometimes utilised in one or more divisions for cost saving scales of economy.

Additionally the Foundation Board continues as Trustees of the Surf Life Saving Rescue Fund Trust. A Trust, established in 2002 to provide a more assured and ongoing source of funding for the movement.

As a partner in the service of volunteer surf lifesavers throughout the country, the Foundation’s vision is to secure funds to assist Surf Life Saving in making our beaches safer by preventing drownings and saving lives.
